If you have suffered an accident on a bus or sustained injuries on other forms of public transport you may be able to make a personal injury compensation claim. Our team of no win, no fee solicitors have a wide range of experience in dealing with the large variety of claims that can arise out of public transport accidents.
If you are a passenger on any type of public transport and you are injured as a result of an accident there is it very likely that you can make a successful passenger accident injury claim. The "carrier" i.e. the bus, coach, train, ship or airline operator, has a duty of care to the passengers it carries and has a legal duty to comply with safety standards. If you are injured you may be able to make a personal injury claim. As with other accident claims, you can get compensation for your pain and suffering as well as any financial losses such as wages, physiotherapy charges, costs of care etc.
Coach or bus accident claims: Although all coaches built since 2001 have to be fitted with seatbelts, regular service buses do not. As a consequence if a bus brakes hard or is involved in an accident passengers can be thrown from their seats and typically suffer such injuries as such as whiplash, leg injuries or arm injuries.
Train accident injury claims: Train accidents can range from minor injuries caused by defective equipment such as steps or luggage racks to very serious, even fatal accidents such as in the Potters Bar and Cumbrian train crashes. For more information about train accident claims relating to fatal injuries see the fatal injury claims page For a train accident claim to succeed, you need specialist advice due to complexity of the UK rail system with many different companies operating the tracks, the trains and stations.
Taxi accident claims: Injuries in private hire and black cabs can be severe because despite legislation many people fail to use seat belts. However even if this is the case and you are injured in a taxi accident you may be able to make a claim against the taxi driver, his insurers, or the taxi operating company. As with other types of claim, if you were partly responsible for the taxi accident then this would be reflected in the final settlement figure.
Ship accident or ferry accident claims: Rough seas cannot be controlled but boat operators have a duty to ensure that there are no avoidable dangers onboard that can cause unnecessary injuries. If you think you may have a claim you need to get in touch with a specialist ship accident solicitor as soon as you are able.
Aircraft accident claims: Major airline accidents are thankfully very rare but there are less newsworthy personal injury claims such as food poisoning caused by aircraft food. As the time limit for making an aircraft accident claim can be different from other claims you will need the help of an expert in this field to make such a claim.

Public Transport / Bus Accident Case Study
1. Mrs B was travelling to work one morning by bus. Due to the bus being driven too fast the driver had to brake very suddenly when the car in front stopped. Unfortunately she was travelling in the front seat and was thrown forward six feet into the luggage rack. Mrs B suffered severe bruising to her left leg and ankle together with a groin strain. She was forced to take a week off work for which she lost pay and she was unable to look after her household and a family for a number of weeks.
Despite the bus company disputing liability we managed to make a successful claim on our client's part and she received £2500 in compensation.
2. Our client Mrs D is a lady in her nineties who was thrown to the floor when a bus driver took a corner too fast. She slid across the floor of the bus and sustained extensive bruising and soft tissue injuries. The bus operator denied liability but our solicitor was able to obtain witness evidence and the company paid Mrs D £4000 in compensation for her injuries.
